Science Diplomacy acknowledges problems that are too urgent, large and complex to be solved by one or some nation states. Climate change, global pandemics but also political tensions demand for scientific attention that can complement traditional national gateways for reaching compromise. Scientists can agree on scientific-facts leaving aside political frictions and historical national denominations.
Science Diplomacy complements traditional diplomacy on soft diplomacy and rational focus on hard measureable facts. Diplomacy in science helps foster heterodox scientific ethics skills in academia.
But what countries can push effectively for scientific ideas to initiate societal change due to established scientific collaborations and diplomatic exchange?
The Science Diplomacy Index outlines international differences in addressing international crises and global challenges with complementary science diplomacy means. The index ranks countries based on established science diplomacy networks. Science Diplomacy is measured by (1) the Academia quota per country, (2) the density and world ranking of national academic institutions as well as (3) diplomatic relations in embassies, consulates and other representations abroad.
The Science Diplomacy Index highlights countries with highest science diplomacy rates in red and light green.
The Science Diplomacy Index applied on Climate Justice.
